SERVICES

Counseling / Psychotherapy

Counseling, which is also sometimes called "psychotherapy", is offered for a wide variety of issues.  A partial list of these issues includes: depression; anxiety; grief and loss; stress-related issues; relationship issues for couples; family issues; alcohol and other drug problems; child and teen behavior problems; ADD and AD/HD; bipolar disorder; and issues related to autistic spectrum disorders.

Counseling is available to address the needs of people of all ages, including children, teenagers, and adults.  While there may be exceptions, in general, the younger the child, the more time the counselor will spend with the parents.

Case Management

Our case manager helps clients obtain access to community resources.  She is also available to visit a home or school setting to determine how assistance can be provided in that environment.

Multiple-Domain Therapy

Multiple-Domain Therapy is designed for children and teenagers with serious problems in multiple areas of life (e.g. school, peer group, family, psychological/emotional).  The Multiple-Domain Treatment Specialist typically devotes 5-7 hours per week of face-to-face time with the child and with those most important to the child's success (e.g. teachers, parents, relatives, other clinicians).  The vast majority of these hours are spent outside the office setting-- wherever the problems are actually occurring.  At the completion of MDT, we expect to have helped the client and her/his family to alter the problem areas enough that they can then succeed using more limited and traditional forms of help (e.g. therapy).  MDT typically lasts three to four months, plus aftercare.

Music Education: Voice & Guitar Lessons

Individual and group lessons are taught by Kathrine Acus.  She specializes in providing a flexible lesson format to provide appropriate, high-quality education or all people, regardless of ability. From young to old, and novice to experienced, all are welcome to explore and enjoy music with the guidance of a caring
instructor.

Music Therapy

Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession, in which music is used to achieve non-musical goals.  Music Therapy's demonstrated successes involve helping people with social, physical, emotional and cognitive goals.

Music Therapists help people in nursing homes, schools, day programs, hospitals, mental health facilities, hospice, early intervention programs, prisons, and in the private practice office setting. They use research-based techniques for helping individuals with a broad range of issues.  This research has been reported in medical, nursing, educational, social work, and psychology journals.

Music Therapy achieves an array of positive outcomes using methods which are comfortable, accessible and exciting.  The instruments and techniques are designed to make the experience successful for everyone, regardless of their musical background.  Positive results of music therapy include: increased socialization; improved physical movement; improved emotional management skills; improved mental processing skills;and  pain management.

For more information about Music Therapy, you can call Kathrine Acus (419-636-1713), or visit the American Music Therapy Association.
